The Brazilian superstar is keen on playing for FC Barcelona once again.
Neymar Jr is expected to leave his current club Paris Saint-Germain before the end of this season’s summer transfer window which closes on August 31. Multiple news outlets have reported that the Brazilian superstar wants to leave and that this time, PSG, are also keen on selling him and raising funds.
Apparently, the 31-year-old has communicated his decision to the club. Although Neymar has a contract with PSG until 2027, he has tried to force a move away for several years now but without success. This time, however, there is a general feeling that he might get his wish.
With Lionel Messi moving to Inter Miami following the expiry of his contract and Kylian Mbappe training with the reserves after deciding not to extend, PSG are suffering a major crisis at the moment. They have a shortage of quality players upfront.
In order to address the issue, the Parisian club has signed Portuguese forward Goncalo Ramos from Benfica on a season-long loan, with the option to buy him.
“It is a great pride and an immense happiness to join Paris Saint-Germain. PSG is one of the biggest clubs in the world with one of the best squads,” the 22-year-old Ramos said in a statement.
According to The Telegraph and reliable transfer market journalist Fabrizio Romano, Neymar is keen to return to his former club Barcelona. It was in 2017 when Neymar decided to leave Barcelona in order to join PSG after the latter paid his release clause of € 222 million - which remains the most expensive transfer in football history.
Neymar had spent four season with Barcelona, joining the club in 2013 and won several La Ligas as well as the UEFA Champions League with the Catalan club.
Despite the interest from Neymar as well as that of Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta to bring the Brazilian back to Spain, the club’s financial problems may prove to be a stumbling block. Barcelona are suffering from wage-related issues and they might need to sell several players in order to address the signing of Neymar.
ESPN have also reported that there is an ongoing debate among the decision- makers at the club about Neymar. Coach Xavi Hernandes believes the Brazilian star does not fit the bill. However, club president Joan Laporta could take the final call.
Neymar also has other options in the form of the Premier League and it is believed that Chelsea are very interested in his services. Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer (MLS) in the US are two other likely destinations for him if he does part ways with PSG this month.
