Real Madrid announce the signing of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund

Real Madrid have completed the transfer of highly sought-after young English talent Jude Bellingham.

Real Madrid have won the race to sign English midfielder Jude Bellingham. They have managed to sign him from Borussia Dortmund on a six-year contract.

Bellingham had been one of the most coveted young players on the planet and several top clubs, especially those in the Premier League, had been highly interested in acquiring his services.

“Real Madrid CF and Borussia Dortmund have agreed on the transfer of the player Jude Bellingham, who will remain linked to our club for the next six seasons,” read a statement from the club.

On Bellingham’s presentation ceremony it said: “Tomorrow, Thursday, June 15, at 12:00 noon at Real Madrid City, the presentation ceremony for Jude Bellingham as a new Real Madrid player will take place. Next, Jude Bellingham will appear before the media.”

Dortmund also released a statement which read: “[The clubs’] have agreed to terms over the transfer of Jude Bellingham. Everyone in Dortmund wishes you the best of luck in your next adventure Jude!”.

While the official transfer fee wasn’t disclosed, it is believed to be in excess of $139 million after Borussia Dortmund reported that figure in a statement to the stock exchange last week.

The German club said the fixed fee was $110 million, plus variables that could reach more than $32 million over the next six seasons.

"Thank you to everyone at BVB and to the fans for everything over the past three years," Bellingham said in a statement. "It's been an honor to wear your jersey so many times, in big and small moments.

"Even though I look forward to my next destination, I will never forget the journey there. Once a Borusse, always a Borusse. All the best for the future. Hey BVB!"

Real Madrid beat competition from Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool to get the Bellingham deal over the line.

The 19-year-old was one of the best players in the Bundesliga during his three years in Germany. Last season, he made 31 league appearances and scored eight goals for Dortmund.

He has become the third player to have been purchased for a fee in excess of at least €100m after Gareth Bale (2013) and Eden Hazard (2019).

On his Real Madrid presentation, Bellingham was given the iconic Number 5 shirt that was worn by the legendary Zinedine Zidane at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bellingham posed with his new shirt before Madrid’s packed trophy case after he passed his medical exam and signed the contract alongside club president Florentino Pérez.

“I have said in many interviews how much I admire Zinedene Zidane,” Bellingham said about his new No. 5 after having worn 22 with his former clubs. “I am not trying to be the same as him, I am just trying to be Jude, but it is definitely a bit of a homage to how great he was.”
