The auction for the Women's Indian Premier League will feature five different base price categories ranging from Rs. 10 lakhs to Rs. 50 lakhs and looks set to be held in February, 2023.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to host its first-ever auction for the inaugural edition of the Women’s Indian Premier League in February. According to reports, the tentative date has been identified as February 11 and the deadline for registration for the WIPL auction is January 26.
Apparently, the base price for the auction has been divided into five separate categories between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 50 lakh.
According to ‘guidance note’ for auction registration system, which is sent by the BCCI to the state organisations, and which has been accessed by Sportstar, a female player can opt for her reserve base price for the auction.
Capped players - those who currently play for the senior Indian side or have represented the national colours in the past - can opt for three categories of base prices starting from Rs. 30 lakhs to Rs. 50 lakhs. Meanwhile, uncapped women’s cricketers only have two slots of base prices available - Rs. 20 lakhs and Rs. 10 lakhs.
While the communication to the respective state associations only deals with the participation of Indian cricketers, sources in the BCCI suggest that the same five categories of base prices will also be applied in the case of overseas cricketers who take part in the WIPL auction.
It has also been reported that the first season of the Women’s IPL will be held between March 6 to March 26. So far, five existing Indian Premier League franchises have shown and interest in owning teams in the WIPL as well.
