Delhi launches yoga and meditation initiative for students and teaches in government schools from April 18

Delhi government has taken the initiative to promote the benefits of yoga and meditation among the students of government schools.

Students and teachers of all government schools in Delhi will be asked to practice yoga as well as meditation on the campus. Under the new initiative taken by the Delhi government which seeks to promote health and mental wellness, yoga and meditation will be promoted from April 18.

The Delhi government has decided to launch the ‘999 Challenge’ on that day and the challenge will involve nine rounds of Surya Namaskar yoga pose, nine minutes of meditation for world peace, and they will all have to perform the same routine for at least nine days.

A government officer associated with the initiative has suggested that before rolling out the ‘999 Challenge’ officially in school campuses, a series of online meetings and interactions will be held in order to chalk out clear plans according to every individual school’s needs.

The health teams from the government will conduct sessions with 40 selected heads of schools. Following the online interaction session, the yoga and meditation challenge will be formally launched in the schools on April 18.

The primary aim of the initiative is to underline the importance of how yoga can greatly boost the mental and emotional well-being of both students and teachers. All of the schools have been asked to appoint two teachers - one will serve as a yoga instructor while the other will act as a demonstrator of moves.

These teachers will be provided yoga training online beforehand and the school heads have also been entrusted the responsibility to encourage their students to perform yoga and meditation more regularly going forward.
