How working mothers can stay consistent with their fitness journey

There are a few tips that working mothers can follow to dedicate time and be consistent with their fitness journey.

There is no doubt that being a working mother is a very difficult challenge. Not only do they have to manage the stress and anxiety of their work, they also have to attend to chores at home, spend time with their family and children and after all this, finding time for self-care becomes almost impossible.

While it may seem very challenging at first, maintaining health and fitness is essential for one’s physical and mental well being. Taking the first step is often the most important thing as it gets easier to follow a fitness journey when the rhythm settles in.

Here are a few tips that working mothers can follow to get started with their fitness journies:

Make fitness a priority:

Making the time to workout regularly and treating it as a priority is the first step that someone needs to take in order to get started. Like any other commitment in life whether it be work or family, one should strive to be consistent and regular and treat it seriously.

In order to begin, one can start with a fitness app or planner. It must also be remembered that taking the time to work out will also ensure better productivity at work and healthier time spent at home with loved ones.

Pick a time that you can be consistent with regularly:

It’s quite normal for working mothers to not find time in the day to devote to physical fitness. In such a case, they need to be time efficient. Working mothers can ditch the gym and elaborate swim or run and engage in just a 15-minute yoga or High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) session in order to meet their daily fitness goals.

They can also achieve this by making fitness a regular part of their life by doing things like using the stairwells rather than the lift or walking to work rather than driving.

Find a workout partner:

Research indicates that working out alongside a friend or a partner can result in greater inspiration and motivation and help someone stay dedicated on the fitness journey. Moreover, it is also more fun while trying to exercise with a workout buddy and make it less stressful. It also gives working mothers a chance to reconnect and decompress while socialising after a hard day at the office and home.

Plan your nutrition:

There is no doubt that nutrition is as important as exercising. This is why one must surround themselves with plenty of healthy food options at home. When faced with a time crunch, prepping your meals and snacks in advance can help you avoid making quick but unhealthy choices. Eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains to get the most out of your exercise and prevent weight gain.

Practice flexibility and patience:

The last and most important time is having patience. Results do not show up overnight and fitness is a long-term commitment. It is also normal to experience setbacks but make sure to not let 2-3 bad days turn into two to three weeks of missed training. Try to be as accommodating as possible with your exercise routine. Don’t be too hard on yourself if you have a bad day or skip a workout.
